TL95 Tower Refurbishment Project

Overview

As part of a maintenance & remedial works contract with Transgrid, Genus was responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the maintenance and refurbishment of Line 95.

These tasks included the replacement of tower components such as bolts, nuts, washers, members, insulators, hangers, double link plates, spacers, vibration dampers, and earthwire fittings across multiple towers. Genus  also performed bristle blasting and painting on tower members, along with foundation and stub remediation on selected towers; as well as the replacement of conductor vibration dampers, danger sign plates, anti-climbers, and tower ladders.

Genus also managed site preparation and remediation work, including vegetation clearing, track repairs, and the installation of rock causeways and gates for access. This included dismantling and disposal of all replaced hardware, safe waste disposal, and route clearing for access tracks, including grading and construction of necessary infrastructure.The project also involved the completion of site remediation and the delivery of work as-executed drawings and inspection/test check sheets.

Scope of Works

  • Replace bolts, nuts, and washers on 4,382 sets across 14 towers. 
  • Replace tower members on 2 towers 
  • Bristle blast and paint tower members on 11 towers. 
  • Perform foundation and stub remediation, plus landscaping on 13 towers.
  • Replace insulators on:
  • 7 suspension towers,
  • 1 suspension tower with double strings,
  • 5 tension towers (including pilot strings on 5 tension towers).
  • Replace insulator hangers on 1 tower. 
  • Replace double link plates on 5 towers. 
  • Replace conductor spacers in 15 spans and jumpers on 5 tension towers.
  • Replace vibration dampers on 3 towers.
  • Replace earthwire fittings and bonds on 8 suspension towers and 5 tension towers.
  • Replace danger sign plates on 14 towers, anti-climbers on 10 towers, and tower ladders on 5 towers.
     

Outcome

The comprehensive scope of work included in this successful project will ensure the continued safety, efficiency, and structural integrity of Line 95.
